There used to be a time where galley or bridge tours were offered for free on almost every cruise. While you may still find a galley or bridge tour available on some ships, it has become more common to find these offered as part of a “behind the scenes” tour. On some cruise lines, these tours are included for guests that have reached a higher level of status within the cruise line’s loyalty recognition program. You can expect to pay anywhere from $50 – $200 for these special tours and they almost always sell out. In addition to getting to see culinary skills at work in the galley tour and where the captain steers the ship in the bridge tour, you’ll likely get access to other off-limits areas including, backstage of the theater, the engine room, medical center, laundry areas and photography studio, crew dining and training areas and others.
